The Liberty County School System houses over 10,000 students across 12 different schools in Southeast Georgia, about 50 miles south of Savannah. The school district's primary goal is to "provide safe and supportive learning environments."
In September 2023, the school district received a four-year grant for Trauma-Informed Support Services, specifically for Project Wellness and Well-being. The goal of the funding was to implement a tool for administering behavioral assessments to the student body. These assessments aim to provide counselors with valuable evidence to support early interventions and offer a comprehensive understanding of potentially at-risk students.
Liberty County and other school districts need to monitor factors such as life skills, conflict resolution, social-emotional development, threat assessment, and overall wellness for their students to set them up for success.

Getting to Know Liberty County
Before implementing Standard Education, Liberty County required students to complete a Google form when taking assessments. Students often entered random information into the fields, making the responses difficult to read and understand due to a lack of standardization. This frequently led to confusion stemming from using different student ID numbers and tech numbers, resulting in errors and delays in obtaining accurate insights and thinking through early interventions.
During COVID, the school district saw a few suicides in its district. With the grant, the school district was able to both implement Standard Education to administer screenings and catch suicide ideation early on for quick intervention with the counselors through the real-time assessment insights.
"It helps us identify students who may be struggling in silence and for us to offer interventions to the studentor allows us to identify the students that may not come under our regular data points," says Melaniann Pass, Director of Trauma-Informed Support Services at Liberty County.
Standard Education's screening tool can upload data from the Student Information System (SIS) and students' rosters from the school district to identify each student correctly in the assessments. Our screening tool creates personalized links for administrators to share with the corresponding teachers for assessments like the SRSS, ASQ, or SDQ.
Seamless Assessments for Student Success
"Having Standard Education handle this for us is beneficial since we are not tech experts. It's crucial to minimize errors, and we would need at least three weeks per school to analyze all of this data," says Pass.
Once teachers receive the link, they can administer the pre-loaded assessment to one student at a time, helping eliminate bias. Administrators can track progress in real time and support teachers who may be falling behind, all while accessing insights through our dashboard. At-risk students are immediately identified, allowing your district to take prompt action—no calculations or spreadsheets are needed.

Now, for Liberty County's three schools enrolled with Standard Education, meetings are scheduled immediately after the assessment results are released to discuss at-risk students and implement early intervention strategies.
"Logistically, there is no way we could manually score the assessments in a timely manner, and to begin groups with students within the first semester. We are adding or onboarding more schools to receive the grant every year, and this would make it impossible for us to score over 4500-5000 students with fidelity and without a margin of error or mistakes by hand," says Pass of Standard Education's real-time score analysis on our dashboards.
On average, Standard Education helps reduce the collection and analysis of assessments from 96 hours down to 90 minutes (per 10,000 students) in a school district.
How Standard Education Helps Schools Advocate for their Students

Behavioral screenings are vital for identifying students who need help early on, allowing for immediate support if there's access to real-time insights. Standard Education can help administrators visualize results on our dashboards and gain insights into students' behavioral health from the first student's assessment submittal.
“We have to advocate for our schools because there’s value in kids and their social-emotional learning. It’s important for students and families. It will make principals, counselors, and teachers better and see the value in it," says Pass.
"It’s great that Standard Education not only speeds up the process, but also allows for quick intervention, particularly for students who might be struggling silently," says Pass. "Identifying those students early and providing the right support, like counseling and social work services, before they escalate is an important part of the social-emotional learning (SEL) framework."
Our tool ensures consistency and reduces bias by streamlining assessments, leading to better identification of needs. It also saves staff time, enabling them to focus on supporting students directly and fostering a positive environment for success.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Liberty County will expand from three to five schools using Standard Education's behavioral screening tool. "With this structure in place, the district seems to be set up for long-term success in terms of both the emotional well-being of students and academic success," says Pass.
